Those That Reach Out

By Sean Stillmaker in News on Jun 13, 2010 8:00PM

Individuals need to step up and reach out instead of relying on institutions and foundations to solve our problems, proclaims Carolyn Wortham. “Reach out and help one child,” she told the Sun Times. Her son, Thomas Wortham IV, a Chicago police officer was brutally murdered three weeks ago; he was posthumously honored at City Council on June 9. Wortham was a strong community activist trying to rebuild his neighborhood. His parents are planning to continue his work.

Answering the call to reach out is Alex Levesque. Tired from seeing prevalent gang violence, Levesque started a program out of his own pocket that takes kids off the street and teaches them automotive restoration. This is his story of reaching out.
