Hey Champ Get Kinda NSFW, Kinda Freaky

2010_06_hey_champ_clapping.jpg Hey Champ, a group we have spilled no shortage of digital ink all over, have released a doozy of a video for their "oh-my-GAWD-it's-FINALLY-getting-released" album Star. (We can't really say it's their debut per se since the band has released earlier albums, but for all intents and purposes this is the first full-length most folks will hear.)

The lead single from the album is "Neverest" a slinky grower of a tune that borrows the guitar line from their breakthrough "Cold Dust Girl" and twists it amongst a chorus of "whoah whoahs" before sliding into a pensive beat that yearns towards eventual release. The video the band created for the song is not quite what you'd expect. We're labeling it as NSFW because it features topless dancing girls, but in this case there's very little sexy about their oddly morphing, um, toplessness.

Star comes out July 13. The band is back in town a few weeks to play an After Dark event at The Art Institute on June 25, and then they swing back through on July 31 to play the Wicker Park Fest.

The inventive yet slightly disturbing video for "Neverest" is after the jump.
