Willy Wonka On The River

2010_6_17willywonka.jpg It's our firm belief that Gene Wilder would take Johnny Depp in a fight faster than you can say "vermicious knid," which is why we're so thrilled that The Fulton River District will be screening the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory as part of Movies in the Park next week. It's Tuesday, June 29, and is being co-sponsored by The Blommer Chocolate Company, which has been scenting various Chicago neighborhoods since 1939.

The free event kicks off at 8 p.m. and (according to the details we received) will include appearances by Willy Wonka himself, and his Oompa Loompas. Blommer will be handing out scads of chocolate bars, and somewhere in that multitude will be ten Golden Tickets. Alas, the lucky winners will not receive a lifetime supply of chocolate but instead gift certificates from the new Chicago French Market and restaurants such as Province, Carnivale, and Prairie Fire. They'll also be giving away DVDs of the movie. It promises to be a real bean-feast.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Tuesday June 29, 8 p.m., Fulton River Park, 601 W. Kinzie., FREE, More details here.
