City Extends Sticker Deadline

2010_06_30_sticker.jpg Normally July 15th is the last day drivers in Chicago can get away without having a new car sticker without facing a $120 ticket. While the deadline for having the new sticker is typically June 30th, the city usually allows a two-week grace period. But trouble with defective stickers has resulted in the city extending that grace period to July 30th. It seems that some of the stickers don't have enough adhesive to stay stuck on the windshield.

Last week, Kristine Williams, spokesperson for the City Clerk’s office, told The Expired Meter, “We were made aware that some stickers had too little adhesion June 1st or June 2nd. We immediately went to hand check the stickers. The vast majority were perfectly good. But we didn’t want to risk it so we pulled the entire first batch.” But out of precaution, the city has given drivers until the end of July before they start ticketing drivers. In a follow-up with The Expired Meter, Williams said, “A lot of people wait until today (June 30th) to put their city sticker on their windshield. Due to the circumstances, we felt it was in the best interest of everyone to do this.” The Expired Meter, doing the Lord's work, also has details on your options on replacing your sticker if you're unlucky enough to have a defective one.
