Plans for bringing wind farms to U.S. waters have grown thanks to a proposal to build one on Lake Erie, just north of Cleveland, [via], similar to plans to build a wind farm just off Cape Cod as well as one in Lake Michigan off the coast of Evanston. The plan, announced earlier this month by Ohio governor Ted Strickland, calls for five turbines on Lake Erie that would generate 20 megawatts of electricity by 2012 with plans to add additional turbines through 2020. An announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between GE Energy and the Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. was made at the annual WindPower conference earlier this year.
