Do This: King (or Queen) of the Kitchen Competition

By Carrie Becker in Food on Jul 28, 2010 3:20PM

2010_07_28_chef_mark_maassen.jpg We love a good culinary smack down, especially when Chicago trumps all others in this field. This Saturday show your support of our food loving city and Chef Mark Maassen, a culinary instructor at Le Cordon Bleu Chicago, when he competes against Chefs from Los Angeles, New York and D.C. for the title of King or Queen of the Kitchen at Kenmore Live Studio.

Following a nationwide search, in-store cooking demonstrations and online video submissions, Maassen was voted on and selected by America to advance to the next level of the Sears Chef Challenge. He has already brought home $5,000 for his charity of choice, People's Resource Center, and hopes to take home the crown, a newly-renovated kitchen from Sears and up to $20,000 donated in his name to a charity food bank in Chicago.

ABC7/Vocalo food critic Steve Dolinsky will be the emcee of the evening, which is FREE and open to anyone who would like to sample some FREE eats and watch Maassen take home a win for our city. For those who don't like FREE food (wah?), you can also view the competition live here.

Saturday, July, 31st at 7p.m. Kenmore Live Studio (678 North Wells St., 312-265-0871).
