2010_08_TubRing.jpg Tub Ring has long been one of our bands on the Chicago scene, and it's a little weird to think that they've been around long enough to almost warrant the title of elder statesmen, even if their music remains as unexpected as ever. Their mixture of unlikely melodies grafted into and holding together a potent mixture of spazz rock -- never trust one bar of one of their songs to lead logically to another -- allows Tub Ring to endlessly tinker with listeners expectations. On their new album, Secret Handshakes, they show no signs of slowing down and the disc sucks you into its sonic blender from beginning to end.

The group has already released one of the album's songs as a teaser and they've been kind enough to allow Chicagoist to premier the second sneak peek from Secret Handshakes. It's an unlikely cover of Queen's "Flash" and it aptly displays how the group can take even the most familiar of songs and indelibly lay their sonic imprint upon it. Download the song and then after the jump you can check out the video Gris Grimly created for "Flash."
