Via Deadspin, Chicagoist has learned that ESPN contributor Jay Mariotti has been arrested and booked on "suspicion of a felony" after an altercation at his apartment in Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Times, the former longtime Chicago Sun-Times sports columnist that everybody loves to hate got into a heated argument with his girlfriend in the wee hours of Saturday morning at a Santa Monica, California, nightclub. The couple then brought the fight back to their Venice residence, where it allegedly got physical. Mariotti is currently being held on $50,000 bail.
Mariotti left the Sun-Times in August of 2008 after a 17 year stint to "pursue other opportunities," including shifting his writing out of print and to the internet at AOL Sports, which recently morphed into FanHouse.com. Mariotti also maintained his status as a regular panelist on ESPN's Around the Horn. Mariotti relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles earlier this year.
