Hudson Mohawke, Starkey Take Over Smart Bar/Metro For Subfix Massive

By Jake Guidry in Arts & Entertainment on Sep 21, 2010 9:30PM

2010_09_21_subfix.jpg Subfix, Smart Bar's perpetual dubstep and drum 'n bass night, will once again morph into Subfix Massive this Thursday. The night, an all-building event between both Smart Bar and Metro, saw success earlier this summer due to a varied, quality bill of Nosaj Thing, Datsik, Eprom and others. Not to mention the 18+ age association, which generally opens the flood gates for these types of shows. This Thursday's incarnation of Subfix Massive should easily rival the success of that night with a bill featuring Glasgow's Hudson Mohawke, Starkey, Dieselboy, and residents Quadratic and Phaded.

Hudson Mohawke has long been a guy on our radar with his off-kilter, mesmerizing beats held in sway by impeccable harmonies. Signed to Warp, HudMo is a few degrees removed from producers like Flying Lotus and Autechre and, in some aspects, his productions are even crazier. HudMo's support, notably Starkey and Dieselboy, will pump the night full of enough sonic variance that each phase of the night should be fresh forrays into the disjunct, stuttery, booming sounds of dubstep and drum 'n bass.

Subfix Massive is Thursday September 23, 10 p.m., Metro/Smart Bar, 3730 N. Clark St., 18+, $10-$14
