Chicagoist Mix #2: Charlie Glitch

By Jake Guidry in Arts & Entertainment on Sep 24, 2010 5:40PM

2010_09_24_charlieglitch.jpg Chicagoist Mix Series is a bi-weekly feature that profiles local DJs and features a mix compiled exclusively for Chicagoist. This is mix No. 2, brought to you by Charlie Glitch.

Everyone in the Chicago dance music scene knows the DJ crew Ghetto Division. If you don't, consider this a refresher on local music. Ghetto Division have been holding it down on the south side for a while now and in the last year or so they've cozied themselves into the minds of house heads all over the country. Trailblazers of house music, Ghetto Division's work slays dance floors, time and time again. The crew is very tight-nit and why wouldn't they be? They're family, after all. Made up of brothers, cousins and close friends, this family aspect has helped the crew's ascent to popularity. One of its integral members, Charlie Glitch, offers up mix No. 2 of Chicagoist Mix Series.

Charlie Glitch, a.k.a. Carlos Rodriquez, reps his people hard; an admirable quality, no doubt. Mix No. 2 is made up almost exclusively of Ghetto Division jams and it delves into the very wonderful world of Chicago house. If you want to know how this famous local sound has evolved, this mix is it. Charlie Glitch's next show is Sept. 28 at Evil Olive, where he'll play alongside Million $ Mano and Mic Terror. We got to ask Glitch a few questions:

Chicagoist: You're a member of the south side's favorite DJ crew, Ghetto Division. Between you and the other guys, what has been the biggest component to your success?

Charlie Glitch: Meeting our short term goals to achieve our long term dream. E.g making sure our releases and events are on point.

C: Chicago's sound is house. However, it seems that so many have forgotten that or have flat out turned their back on it. Why do you think that is?

CG: I dont think they've forgotten, I feel that they are just tired of the same house songs being played over and over again.

C: What's the next step for you and your music?

CG: I'm putting together a live show. Synths, turntables, vocoders. I plan to release a couple EPs on Ghetto Division Records and expand not only my sounds, but the Ghetto Division sound world wide.

C: What have you been listening to lately?

CG: I've been listening to Dion and The Belmonts, some acid house, latin beats.

C: Can you tell us a little about the mix?

CG: This mix has old, new and future songs from some of the Ghetto Division DJs, a little jack, a little acid, a lot of house.
