Single in the City? Time to Move!

A study by The Daily Beast has prompted one of the biggest breakthroughs in scientific history: singles in Chicago shouldn't blame themselves for being single. Instead, they should blame the weather. Citing a report that The Daily Beast published last year, Fox News reports that Chicago is the 13th best city to meet new people, behind cities like Columbus, OH (that's right), and Seattle.

The Daily Beast gave Chicago big ups in its study for "having lots of professional sports teams" but knocked the Second City for not having enough gyms and nightclubs where single people can meet other singles. As tragic as that may be, a courtship coach in Chicago argues that what's really at issue is not the dearth of nightclubs and gyms, but the intense winter weather:

"In Chicago, if you haven't coupled up by November for a winter romance, you might be out of luck," said Dr. Paul Dobransky. "Because it's so horribly cold, a lot of people don't leaving home they might go to work and stay home, it's too much to go out. You might not feel like dolling up to go out in the cold."

Dobransky also says that when the weather turns nice, cabin fever takes over, people get outside and relationships tend to break up in the spring.

Aside from the study being almost a year old, does this mean that some people in Chicago are doomed to be in an endless cycle of paralyzing singledom for the rest of their lives unless they move to places tangled with gyms and nightclubs from November to March? We guess it could be worse.
