Stunning new yesterday out of Will County as charges against Brian Dorian, the Lynwood police officer alleged to have killed one man and wounded two in a shooting spree last week, were dropped after authorities discovered evidence on Dorian's home computer that placed him at his Crete Township home during the shootings.

The Will County State's Attorney's office, showing the tact and compassion that's served them well over the years, gave Dorian the equivalent of a "my bad" in announcing the charges were being dropped. Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow said in a makeshift news conference that he would have apologized personally to Dorian if he were there, "(b)ut at the same time, he’s a police officer. And if he were in our shoes and he had a suspect under these circumstances, Brian Dorian would have acted the same way.”

Glasgow was referring to evidence compiled against Dorian prior to the discovery of the computer records, including being identified by an eyewitness to one of the shootings. "The circumstantial evidence is uncanny," Glasgow said.

The dropping of charges against Dorian vindicates the contention of his family, friends and fellow Lynwood police officers that Dorian was innocent all the time. Meanwhile, the "honeybee shooter" remains at large.
