Our Halloween Soundtrack

Halloween is kind of a big deal to us. We've already told you what kind of candy we're fond of, our favorite movies for the holiday and showed you costumes we wore as children. That said, Halloween has bred some great music and plenty of us have various cuts we break out every year to celebrate the day. Some of us have long lines of reasoning why we choose to put these on our stereos each year, others really just like an excuse to jam to a few darker tunes for a few days. Here's what we'll be listening to this weekend:

Jon Graef: For Halloween cuts, I don't think there's any other song that bests soundtracks the holiday than "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. Metal fans looking for an even spookier version of the track should check out goth-metal legends Type O Negative's cover from the Nativity In Black tribute album. Good lord (of darkness), that's the only song in existence to scare the crap out of me.

Tony Peregrin: I only can think of one track that I always make a point to play in the days coming up to Halloween: "Everyday Is Halloween" by Ministry. The lyrics totally called to me as a young gay boy coming into his own. I just thought the lyrics were so empowering. Still do.

Betsy Mikel: Nina Simone, “I Put a Spell On You.” Every single adjective I would ever use to describe anything Halloween related. Spooky, eerie, bone-chilling...describes this song perfectly. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

Aaron Cynic: Really, it'd be entirely too hard for me to narrow it down to just a handful of songs. Bands like the Misfits pretty much revolved around imagery that's Halloween themed and it goes without saying I'm, jamming on their catalog along with White Zombie's Lasexorcisto, plenty of Type O Negative and my entire Slayer collection.

Karl Klockars
Pretty much anything from Type O Negative. Specifically from Bloody Kisses, October Rust and World Coming Down. Megadeth's Hangar 18 also works well during this season for some inexplicable reason.

Alex Hough:
"Medea's Dance of Vengeance" (1955) by Samuel Barber
"Andante" (1931) by Ruth Crawford Seeger
Introduction to "The Firebird" (1910) by Igor Stravinsky

Steven Pate:
Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead
Goblin - Suspirina Theme
CCR - Bad Moon Rising

Jake Guidry:
Nine Inch Nails - Closer
Joy Division - These Days
Cursive - Harold Weathervein
Radiohead - Idioteque
Burial - Untrue

Chuck Sudo:
Scatman Crothers - Ghost Riders in the Sky
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Screaming Jay Hawkings - Feast of the Mau Mau, I Put A Spell on You, She Put the Wamee on Me

Kim Bellware
"Dig! Lazarus Dig!" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
"Slag Slag" - The Memphis Goons
Anything from Crpyt Records' "Back from the Grave" compilation

Michele Lenni
Zombie Dance - The Cramps
Bella Lugois's Dead - Bauhaus
Boris the Spider - The Who

And of course, everyone loves Thriller
