Bush: Sears Tower "A Genuine Target" On 9/11

Former President George W. Bush, in town to promote his book Decision Points, said that Sears Tower was "a genuine target" of terrorists on September 11, 2001 and praised Mayor Daley for his response in evacuating downtown the day of the attacks.

Bush and Daley engaged in a mutual admiration society at the Union League Club this morning. Calling Chicago "the best-run city in America" (let that one sink in a bit), Bush said, "People forget that the Sears Tower was a target — a genuine target, and the mayor responded, and his people responded, brilliantly to the threats." Daley returned the reach-around, praising Bush for his "calm" on what Daley called "Pearl Harbor for another generation."

“It changed the whole course of America," Daley said. No argument there. No word on whether Bush and Daley in the same room led to breakout of Daleyisms and Bushisms that could have torn the space-time continuum.
