Track That Truck! Happy Bodega

The latter half of 2010 could potentially be called the “Season of Food Trucks” as they’ve taken to Chicago’s street in abundance after legalization this year. Amongst the many new offerings is the quirky and tasty, fan-favorite Happy Bodega.

If the idea of food from a truck doesn’t immediately make you come running, the atmosphere at Happy Bodega certainly will. Sweet sounds of 1950s crooners usher passersby in to the chirpy yellow-stripped truck with the cheery red awning where they offer all sorts of goodies from coffee and tea, to fresh-cut flowers and newspapers.

Track the truck on twitter to find exact locations throughout the week. On our recent visit with the Happy Bodega, we indulged in a Happy Bodega staple: the Happy Pocket. The Happy Pocket is a doughy pocket filled with savory flavors. Ours was the “I Gotta Guy”, which was filled with Italian sausage, fennel, feta, onions and tomatoes, kept warm inside the pocket. What makes this pocket “happier” than most? Diners find out as soon as they unwrap the tasty pocket to see a heart pressed into the dough.

Don’t skimp out on the dessert! Their banana pudding, while simple, brings back memories of childhood, with real chunks of banana toppling over the soft 'Nilla wafers sunken to the bottom of the cup. Enjoy a happy pocket and banana pudding for just $8.50.
