After the epic Subway salmonella outbreak of Summer 2010, we were kind of wary about getting our hands on some delicious foot long sandwiches smothered in Chipotle Mayo sauce. Sorry to ruin your pre-lunch hour, but right now the food contamination problem isn't with sandwiches from Subway -- but sandwiches from Jimmy John's.

With reports of people being ill beginning around November 1, 2010, the current salmonella outbreak has reached around fifty different people in nine counties in Illinois thus far. The Illinois Health Department has been aggressively investigating the cause of the outbreak, and it looks like tarnished alfalfa sprouts from Jimmy John's are to blame. The health department continues to investigate the cause of contamination, and have contacted alfalfa sprout suppliers regarding the incidents.

If you find yourself dealing with the symptoms of a salmonella infection, please, for the love of all sandwiches, go see a doctor or health professional.
