2011_01_chirplogo.jpg It’s been nearly a year now since the much-anticipated launch of CHIRP Radio. The non-profit, volunteer-run radio station has been broadcasting a wide-ranging selection of music with an independent and local focus online year round between 6 a.m. and 3 a.m. since January 17, 2010. And to celebrate their year-long success, CHIRP Radio will host a handful of local music events later this month.

  • The festivities kick off Friday, January 14 with a dance party at Beauty Bar. It will feature DJ sets by electronic trio Depressed Buttons (comprised of 3 of 5 members of The Faint), as well as CHIRP’S own DJ Dustin Drase. Drink specials will include $3 Bud drafts and PBR tall boys, $4 well drinks, and as usual $10 martini and a manicure combos.

    CHIRP Radio's Dance Party is Friday, January 14 at Beauty Bar, 1444 W Chicago, 10 p.m., $5, 21+

  • The Monday after is CHIRP Radio’s official anniversary date. The celebration continues with their regularly scheduled monthly benefit show at the Whistler, this time featuring local rockers Rambos. As always at the Whistler, entrance is FREE and the cocktails are good.

CHIRP Radio holds a benefit show Monday, January 17 at the Whistler, 2421 N Milwaukee, 9 p.m., FREE 21+

  • The main event is the following Thursday, when CHIRP Radio holds its official anniversary party at the Empty Bottle. This show too is a benefit, featuring headliners Campfires, the Chicago-based solo project known for its jangly, densely-layered and reverb-heavy psych-pop. Also playing will be local acts Black Math and Cool Memories.

    CHIRP Radio’s One-Year Anniversary Party is Thursday, January 20 at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western, 9 p.m., $8, 21+

  • And one week later, CHIRP Radio will hold yet another benefit show - this time at The Hideout. This anniversary month wrap-up show line-up is still under wraps so keep your eye on The Hideout’s calendar page for who's playing.

    CHIRP Radio holds a benefit show Thursday, January 27 at The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia, 9 p.m., $8, 21+
