Grahamwich Gets One Lonely Star From Time Out Chicago

By Anthony Todd in Food on Jan 27, 2011 4:40PM

GrahamWich.jpg In today's Time Out Chicago, Julia Kramer penned a review that may cause Graham Elliot to start throwing rocks through her living room window. With all the hype and hoopla surrounding the opening of Graham Elliot's fancy new sandwich shop, finding a negative voice has been hard. Phil Vettel loved it on the opening day, as did our own Caitlin Roth. Kramer thinks that there isn't anything behind the hype, and gave Grahamwich one star.

She hated almost everything about the place, including the food ("a dilettantish assortment of international sandwiches that reflect not just repeated failures of execution but a lack of care in their conception"), the service ("the person taking orders on all three of my visits, who was pretty much an overall pill, expressed snobbish exasperation at the notion that one might want to make a substitution.") and the general presence of Graham Elliot's personal logo on everything in sight. She did enjoy the design, and admitted that the grilled cheese and reuben sandwiches were good - though not great or worth the price tag.

Is this the first honest, accurate review of this much-anticipated spot? Or do you think that Grahamwich got robbed? Fight it out in the comments.
