Almost everyone loves to get candy for Valentine's Day. Some people may object, complaining that your gift will ruin their diet. They are lying. Buy them candy anyway. This year, buy that candy from two of Chicago's best local candy makers - truffle truffle and Katherine Anne Confections. We're well acquainted with the decadent products from both companies, and their offerings are sure to get you a Valentine's kiss.

truffle truffle has rolled out two new collections - a Hot and Spicy collection and a Culinary Couples collection. Hot and spicy puts flavors like wasabi, curry, thai peanut and cracked peppercorn into truffles and caramels. We're particularly excited about the mole caramel, flavored with a blend of chilies, spices, ground nuts and chocolate. Culinary Couples matches up classic flavors that pair well together, like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk and coffee and donuts. Try the beer & pretzels: milk chocolate ganache combined with chocolate stout, rolled in crushed salted pretzels.

Katherine Anne confections is offering three new flavors for the season. Crunchy Peanut Butter (garnished with homemade peanut toffee), Mole (garnished with red aleppo chili) and Stout (with Half Acre brews, and a hand-piped heart garnish). Or, go a little simpler and buy her caramel assortment. Katherine makes our favorite salted caramels in the city, and a 7-ounce caramel medley only costs $15.
