Planning on showering your love with an abundance of sweets for Valentine's Day? Give a gift that gives twice, with the delicious desserts from the Sweet Miss Giving’s bakery, a social enterprise operation where more than 50% of profits go directly to the Chicago House. Not ready to venture too far, given the remains of the recent snowpocalypse? Sweet Miss Giving’s launched a food truck last month, bringing those sweet treats to you!

Sweet Miss Giving’s bakery opened its doors in October 2008, their retail location at the Chicago French Market last year and have join Chicago's food truck fleet with their food truck operations launched last month. The SMG food truck offers the same all-natural, preservative-free baked goods to locations around the city, as they've done through its wholesale and catering operations.

Sweet Miss Giving’s is not your average bakery, as they support a transitional jobs training internship program. At any given time, more than a dozen of the program’s interns are working at the bakery where they are focused on baking, delivery, packaging and customer service. With the launch of their food truck operations, the program has expanded to include interns in the truck's day-to-day service and operations. Their founder, Reverend Stan Sloan, created it to both fund Chicago House's operations and to provide job training - a business model that other non-profits are also taking up. Sweet Miss Givings has a 4-week bakery training program that teaches interns about the business, followed by a 6-month paid internship to help get their feet wet.

Seduce your sweetie with some of Sweet Miss Giving’s signature red velvet cupcake. Or plan a breakfast in bed, accompanied by their baked biscottis and scones. Share the Valentine’s Day love with their many varieties of muffins, or daydream of warmer weather while biting into their new coconut cupcakes. Stop in at their French Market location, or keep an eye out on their Twitter for locations all around the city.

Sweet Miss Giving’s bakery is located in the West Loop at the Chicago French Market at 131 N. Clinton, and on the streets via @SMGFoodTruck on Twitter.
