Feds to Monitor Next Week's Election

2011_2_15_chicago_seal.jpg U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald's office wanted to remind voters and candidates that they will be keeping tabs on next week's election for any Chicago-style voting shenanigans. Those of you who bring your dead uncle's voter registration to the polls, you've been warned.

Same goes for politicians with a history of nepotism. The Sun-Times reminds us of this time-honored practice in today's Bright One. They shine a spotlight on races in the 3rd Ward, where alderman Pat Dowell faces a challenge from Ebony Tillman, daughter of former Alderman Dorothy Tillman; Ambrosio Medrano, Jr. and his father, former 25th Ward Alderman Ambrosio Medrano; Darcel Beavers' 7th Ward showdown with Sandi Jackson and the shadow her father's Big Hog Nuts cast over it; and friendly rivalries between political families for the 6th and 21st Ward seats currently held by Freddrena Lyle and Howard Brookins, Jr., respectively. The article mainly serves to remind us that ward seats are often treated as inheritances by many political families.
