Northwestern Professor J. Michael Bailey sat down with the Tribune's Mary Schmich to discuss his decision to have a couple use a now-notorious sex toy in front of a group of students as part of an optional after-class demonstration. Bailey told Schmich he probably wouldn't do it again, but he doesn't regret what happened. "If I decide to say I shouldn't have done this,it will be because this could have been avoided, not because anybody has been harmed by it," Bailey said

In his statement released to the Daily Northwestern defending the demonstration, Bailey admitted to the slightest "apprehension" about it. But, finding no reasons not to conduct the demonstration, he moved forward. "I could not come up with a good reason and so I said OK." Bailey also expressed disappointment to Schmich in the statement released yesterday by university president Morton Schapiro that said he was "troubled and disappointed" in Bailey's decision, after university officials and students defended him. "It wasn't what I wanted to hear," Bailey said
