Mortar Shell Found on Metra Tracks

Police had to remove a military mortar shell from the Metra Milwaukee District/North Line tracks near the Mayfair station on the Northwest side today. If that was someone's idea of an April Fool's Day prank, we don't see the humor.

The 16-inch shell was found on the tracks at Lawrence Avenue Near Lamon and was determined to not be live by bomb-sniffing dogs. The scare stopped trains along the line, which were allowed to continue service around 12:30.
