All's fair in love, war and politics, apparently. Carol Moseley Braun, the "consensus Black candidate" who only won one precinct in February's mayoral election and sharply criticized Rahm Emanuel's ability to raise boatloads of money during the mayoral campaign, is now getting a boost from the Mayor-elect to help retire her campaign debt.

Braun's campaign e-mailed an invitation yesterday for an April 21 "unity celebration" at Karyn's on Green that listed Emanuel as a special guest. Tickets $500 for "gold"sponsorship status; $1,000 for "platinum." We do know that Braun raised $550,000 for her mayoral run — and how her disastrous campaign managed that we have no idea — but we won't know how much debt the campaign accrued until April 15, under a change in state law. That's a fittingly ironic date. You'd think it would be easier for Emanuel to just cut a personal check to retire the debt and set Braun riding into the sunset.
