Show Logan Square Some Love

By Sarah Cobarrubias in Arts & Entertainment on Apr 19, 2011 4:30PM

Whether you call Logan Square home or just visit for its many bars, restaurants and venues, you can support the ‘hood by attending the third annual "I Love Logan Square" party. Proceeds from this event go to the Logan Square Neighborhood Association, which undertakes the task of uniting neighbors, businesses, schools, and area organizations to establish a stronger, safer community. And unlike fundraisers fueled by expensive dinners or uppity galas, this one takes the form of a casual night of entertainment, neighborly mingling and dancing.

The party will take place a week from Saturday at the Elastic Arts Foundation headquarters, an easy-to-miss performance space located above the Friendship Chinese in Logan Square. A $10 donation gets you in the door (if you’re 21+ or accompanied by a parent), and additional donations get you drinks, prizes, food, and portraits by local caricaturist Andy Willis. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the festivities kick off at 8:30 with a Zumba lesson. A live auction begins at 9:30, featuring goods and services from Logan Square businesses and residents. Hot auction items include:

  • A "grain to glass" tour and dinner for 4 from Revolution Brewing
  • Tamale-making lessons and party for 20 from Susana Ortiz
  • Tickets to the Sears Tower Skydeck
  • Acupuncture with Sage Community Health Collective
  • An entire winter of snow removal from Daniel La Spata
  • Total bike overhaul from Bike Lane
  • Custom bike painting from Duane Waller
  • One-week stay at a beach cottage in the Indiana Dunes

The list goes on and will continue to grow in the days to come. Anyone interested in contributing auction items or ideas should shoot an email to Bridget Murphy (bmurphy@lsna.net). Same goes for those who would like to volunteer the night of the party. Oh, and stick around after the auction for a dance party with music provided by the People’s DJ Collective.

The "I Love Logan Square" Party is Saturday, April 30 at the Elastic Arts Foundation, 2830 N Milwaukee, 8 p.m., $10 Donation at the Door, 21+ or Accompanied by Parent
