Obama Rips Media, Jokes With Oprah About Birther "Silliness"

President Obama addressed the release of his long form birth certificate yesterday in two very distinct ways. First, Obama took the opportunity to chastise the media for allowing the Birther nonsense to get as big of a distraction as it did.
We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We have better stuff to do. I have got better stuff to do. We have got big problems to solve...We are not going to be able to do it if we are distracted, we are not going to be able to do it if we spend time vilifying each other ... if we just make stuff up and pretend that facts are not facts, we are not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by side shows and carnival barkers.
Huffington Post's Jason Linkins believes that some of those responsible for furthering this nonsense should now be held to the same scrutiny as the President, singling out "short fingered vulgarian" Donald Trump, who claimed responsibility for Obama releasing his birth certificate yesterday. Washington Post columnist Greg Sargent wrote that Trump should now release his tax returns, as he suggested he might do once Obama provided the birth certificate. But doing so may put to rest Trump's fake Presidential campaign and, in a more serious blow to the egoist, show the world he isn't as rich as he claims.
As expected, others in the Birther movement are still having doubts about Obama's birth certificate. Orly Taitz, the Birther Queen, questioned the timing of the certificate's release. Others have moved on to the question of whether Obama is a secret Muslim.
The President and First Lady Michelle Obama also addressed the story while taping The Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday. Obama showed here that he can at least still have a sense of humor about a nonsensical issue.
