Chicago Mixtape Presents A Show of Its Own

By Sarah Cobarrubias in Arts & Entertainment on May 17, 2011 3:00PM

Chicago Mixtape unites music lovers and music in a beautifully convenient way, delivering compilations that feature local acts with upcoming shows directly to subscribers’ inboxes every week without skipping a beat. The next logical step on Mixtape’s journey is to hold its own live music series, Chicago Mixtape Presents.

Since its February launch, the essentially simple, locally-focused service has provided an outlet for little-known bands and brought to light some shows we probably would have missed. So you’d expect that the first installment of the Chicago Mixtape Presents series would also have a local focus. But instead the lineup features a mix of hometown and out-of-state acts.

The show, which takes place a week from Friday at the Empty Bottle, will be headlined by Pilsen-based rockers Ornery Little Darlings, who are currently preparing for the June release of their sophomore effort, Get After It. Also taking the stage are orchestral pop act The Juliets hailing from Detroit and synth-pop savants Fatty Acids out of Milwaukee. Opening is Chicago garage duo Continental Breakfast.

Bonus: This show is free with RSVP! Just email rsvp@emptybottle.com with “Ornery Little Darlings” in the subject line and your full name in the message body. Double bonus: All in attendance receive a free download card for Ornery Little Darlings’ upcoming release. We also heard through the grapevine that local chocolatier Jered Brown and his dark chocolate truffles may make an appearance. In the meanwhile, here’s a small sample of the opening track off Get After It:

Chicago Mixtape Presents is Friday, May 27 at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western, 10 p.m., $8 or Free with RSVP, 21+
