2011_5_20_savage.jpg TMZ reports that professional wrestling legend Randy "Macho Man" Savage died today after suffering a heart attack while driving in Florida. Savage, whose real name is Randy Poffo, grew up in suburban Downers Grove, graduated from Downers Grove North High School and Southern Illinois University. He was a baseball prospect in the White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals organizations before injuries facilitated his switch to professional wrestling, the family business.

Savage became one of the most colorful superstars of the then-World Wrestling Federation during its initial national expansion in the 1980s. Accompanied to the ring by his real-life wife at the time, Elizabeth Hulette, Savage was one of the greatest wrestlers of his era.
