White Sox 3, Mariners 1

John Danks pitched 7-1/3 strong innings, which was enough to earn his first win of he season, outdueling Mariners rookie Michael Pineda in the process. Danks struck out six and walked only one batter. The White Sox offense finally gave Danks some run support. Paul Konerko, three days removed from a surgical procedure to remove a bone fragment from his left wrist, hit a solo home run off Pineda. Gordon Beckham and AJ Pierzynski drove in insurance runs late.

Reds 8, Cubs 2

Matt Garza was ineffective in his return from the DL, the Cubs offense was in hibernation and Jeff Samardzija gave up a three-run home run to Jonny Gomes. All of that led to the Cubs seventh straight loss and brought their record against NL Central opponents to 7-20. Carlos Zambrano, who made headlines after the St. Louis series for saying the Cubs were playing "like a Triple-A team," may have been overestimating things a bit.
