Mariners 7, White Sox 4 (10 Innings)
On a day in which the impulsive tweeting of Oney Guillen once again threatened to overshadow the team and reignite tensions between Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams, Carlos Quentin hit two home runs and drove in 3 to help rally the Sox late and send the game into extras. But what should have been a routine fly ball by Justin Smoak fell between Brent Morel and Juan Pierre for a double, opening the floodgates for a three-run 10th inning against Sergio Santos. The Sox lucked out, however. Both Cleveland and Detroit lost, meaning none of the teams at or near the top of the AL Central gained ground.
