Crime Also Exists Outside Streeterville

With media attention turned to Streeterville and the group assaults happening there this week, we need to remember that muggings and other crimes are happening outside the tony downtown neighborhood.

Three teens were charged in connection to mugging a pair of UIC students yesterday on a CTA bus. Charged were Akeem J. Manago, Christopher Jackson and an unnamed 15-year-old. Manago was charged with aggravated battery in a public place, felony armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon, all of them felonies; and misdemeanor counts of having a firearm and ammunition without a Firearm Owner's Identification Card. Jackson faces felony counts of armed robbery and aggravated battery in a public place. the 15-year-old was charged as a juvenile with felony robbery, being armed with a dangerous weapon and aggravated battery occurring in a public place. Police found the three after reviewing video from the bus. There have been reports of groups of 8-15 people boarding buses without paying and mugging passengers in the area near UIC Manago, Jackson and the juvenile were arrested.

Police are questioning several people in connection to a shooting in the Avondale neighborhood that injured two girls, aged 2 and 7. the two were caught in the crossfire on a playlot where a community policing meeting was underway.
