DOWNLOAD THEN SEE: Mutts

Mutts are a rawk-and-roll duo. Ah, but there is a twist! As soon as you started to think "great, another guitar-drum combo, like we need another one of those" your preconception is proven wrong by the fact that they are a PIANO-drums duo! And a loud one, no Billy Joel or Ben Folds to be found here. Instead we suggest putting in your mouth-guard before listening since the low rumbles and loud racket these two gents conjure up might just rattle your teeth out of your jaw.

Are you prepared for another refreshing twist? these guys can play. This piano-drum combo isn't some sort of trick employed in hopes you will be fooled into thinking neither member is very good at both. Instead Mutts plays with time signatures and song dynamics displaying a wide ranging number of techniques spun out as each tune displays a need for one or another. And then there are moments of the volume being driven far into the red, decimating speakers and throwing you to the floor.

Ready for one more thing? These guys like the word "free." Their EPs are all free. And they're playing a show at The Empty Bottle this Thursday, June 16, that is also free with your RSVP! And, just to help you along the path towards discovery, download one of their tracks below for free and get a taste of what the band's capable of.

Download: The Mutts "Junior"

The Mutts play Thursday, June 16, at The Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western, 9 p.m., Free with RSVP, 21+

  • I saw these guys playing last year at Dr. Manhattan's "final" show. They are most definitely loud but they don't let that drown out the actual music they're playing. Really nice guys and they really do like the word "free." I went up to these guys to thank them for the good show and they just handed me a couple of their EPs.
