This Weekend in Street Fests

2011_6_17_bbq_fest.jpg Street fest season moves along this weekend. Tankboy already previewed Taste of Randolph this morning. But there are other festivals spread across the city worth your attention and a bike ride to experience.

There are scores of six corner intersections in Chicago but only one 6 Corners. The Six Corners Association launches their inaugural BBQ fest tomorrow and Sunday on Milwaukee Avenue, just north of where it intersects with Cicero Avenue and Irving Park Road. The food vendors listed on the website seem a bit sparse for a diagonal city block, but the live music and entertainment is headlined by the Bottle Rockets tomorrow, Canasta and Funkadesi Sunday. The secret weapon of this festival is the Portage Theater, which will screen The Dark Knight tomorrow at 8 p.m. If it rains, the bands are moving inside to the Portage. (4000 - 4080 N. MIlwaukee Ave.)

Lincoln Park Greek Fest gets underway at 4 p.m. this afternoon. The annual soiree is a celebration of all things Hellenic, nestled in the parking lot of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. (2701 N. Sheffield)

Over in the Heart of Italy neighborhood, Oakley Festa Pasta Vino kicks off at 5 p.m. and runs all weekend. Now in its 23rd year, the annual festival will feature the hearty Italian food and wine of Heart of Italy's restaurants. The entertainment isn't going to bowl you over, unless you're a Sha-Na-Na fan; they're headlining tonight at 9 p.m. (Oakley Avenue at 24th Street)
