Man Killed Trying to Rob Off-Duty Cop Dressed as a Clown

An off-duty Chicago police officer was leaving a daycare center on the South Side while dressed as a clown when a man approached him asking for money. The officer said he had no money, and the man pulled a gun on him. In the ensuing tussle, the gun went off, leaving the would-be robber dead on the scene.

The Sun-Times reports that the man is still unidentified, but the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office believes he is in his 20s. Chicago Breaking News reports that he was a teen. The police officer, usually stationed in the Near North area, sustained minor injuries.

If there was ever a nominee for the Darwin Awards, this would be one of them!

If I were going to rob someone, I think a clown would be the last person I'd pick.

  • This suggests a solution to the flash mobs, though. Whenever the mobs start flashing, the cops can cry out their anthem, "Send in the clowns!"
