Afternoon Box Score: Royals Double Up Cubs, Sox Drop First Series to NL Since 2007

By Chuck Sudo in News on Jun 26, 2011 9:26PM

Royals 6, Cubs 3

Kansas City hit Randy Wells consistently, tagging the Cubs starter for six runs in six innings of work as the Royals take two of three from the Cubs at Kaufmann Stadium. Wells gave up 10 hits over those six innings but the game was decided with a Royals four-run first. Geovany Soto hit a two-run homer for the Cubs, who stranded seven runners.

Nationals 2, White Sox 1

The White Sox streak of 17 straight interleague series wins is over. Danny Espinosa cranked a two-run shot off of Phillip Humber, who again went into the seventh inning, to help the Nationals take two of three from the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox offense was again MIA, with their lone run an RBI single by Paul Konerko. The White Sox were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine. the Sox now have a day off before heading to Denver for a three-game series against the Rockies at Coors Field. We don't even think that launching pad will help the Sox.
