Lura Lynn Ryan Passes Away

Starting off the day with some sad news out of Kankakee, where the Associated Press is reporting that Lura Lynn Ryan, wife of former Gov. George Ryan, has passed away.

Mrs. Ryan was admitted to Riverside Medical Center a few days ago suffering from complications related to the chemotherapy she was undergoing to treat her lung cancer. Both Mrs. Ryan and Mr. Ryan tried in recent years to have the former governor released from prison so that he could be at her side for her last days. Mr. Ryan was allowed to be at his wife's side in the hospital for a couple of hours in January, which didn't become known until his attorneys revealed it in a court filing related to one of his many attempts to have his sentence commuted.

The Ryans were married for 55 years.
