Last month, we encouraged everyone to buy tickets for the fattening, creamy wonder that is the Chicago Luxury Ice Cream Festival. Don't be fooled by the name - this isn't a fussy affair with egg cups and finger sandwiches. Anyway, the event, which had been scheduled for July, has been postponed. Now, it's going to be on August 18th and 19th.

The details are largely the same, though the list of creameries still makes us drool. There will also be pastry chefs in attendance, including Chicagoist favorite Toni Roberts, Ben Roche (of Moto) and Malika Ameen (of Top Chef: Just Desserts).

The creameries participating include:

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams of Ohio
Black Dog Gelato
Nice Cream
Via Gelato & Café
Mitchell’s Soda Shop
Homer’s
Bob Tail Ice Cream
Shawn Michelle’s
Oberweis
Angelo’s Gelato
Zingerman’s Creamery of Michigan
Graeter’s of Ohio

Buy tickets for the event online.

  • I've tried Black Dog and Bob Tail and they didn't impress me at all. I believe I've had Homer's too. None of this is what I would call "luxury" ice cream. The only ice cream I've had in Chicago that fit that billing was the ice cream at Coco Rouge, which sadly is no longer in business.
