Lately it seems there is always some fight over some budget going on in our nation's capital. It's hard to keep track of which one is which and how the political bickering affects us. But the most recent Republican proposal of the federal transportation budget looks to cut about $50 billion and allot a greater percentage of the money for rural and suburban areas.

Rep. Dan Lipinski and other urban congressmen are concerned about what this means for city transportation, although the measure would benefit suburban programs like PACE. Crain's Chicago reports:

“Today, we are looking at a bill that would provide only $230 billion in federal investment over six years,” Mr. Lipinski said in a statement. “This represents at least a 30% cut in what we need simply to maintain existing programs. A reduction of this magnitude would clearly have serious consequences for Illinois and the nation.”

  • CTA and Metra W A S T E millions of Operating Fund dollars by competing with each other with parallel and adjacent routes.

And they are asking for Federal Capital Funds to INCREASE and EXTEND the WASTE.

Maybe the Feds just don't want their money wasted:      www.Grayline.20m.com

  • Give the money to PACE. They need buses that run more than once an hour, compared to the CTA's #52 and #49 that run three buses one block away from each other every couple of hours.

  • I stands to reason that buses will run more frequently closer to the the center of density. If you want your buses to run more frequently than once an hour, either live closer to the center or commit to spending more money overall.
