It's Like Visiting the State Fair, But In Your Back Yard

There's food that's bad for you and then there's food that's bad for you but you're going to eat it anyway. This is the latter.
A short walk from Chicagoist's Bridgeport headquarters is a seasonal ice cream shop called the 26th Street Sugar Shack that's open for a shorter span than summer lasts in Chicago. They do the usual standbys - soft serve, sundaes, banana splits, frozen bananas and elephant ears. And once in a while they shake things up a bit, throw a cookie or a candy bar in the deep fryer and come up with what's pictured.
Put a gun to our head and ask us to choose between deep fried cookie dough, deep fried Oreo cookies or deep fried Snickers, we're going for the Snickers. Somehow the deep frying makes the caramel more prominent in flavor. The Sugar Shack sells these for $2.95 a serving (the Snickers and cookie dough come with eight pieces, the Oreos five). Come on down and get you some.
