Quinn Appoints Burke's Daughter to Pollution Control Board

2011_6_22_burke.jpg Gov. Quinn appointed Jennifer Burke, a 41-year-old lawyer and daughter of 14th Ward Ald. Ed Burke and Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke, to the Illinois Pollution Control Board yesterday, a position with a salary of $117,043.

The Chicago Tribune reports Justice Burke said she hadn’t heard of her daughter’s appointment, and denied any connection to the $200,000 campaign loan Friends of Edward M. Burke handed Quinn during election season. Spokeswoman Anne Thompson defended the appointment, stating Jennifer Burke has recently worked on environmental protection issues for Chicago.

Is she qualified?  That's the important story.

How many people out there got their job because they knew someone who worked for the company?  It's networking.  I'm not really sure why people seem to think the same thing that happens in the private sector doesn't/shouldn't happen in government.
