Bacon Takedown Returns

Last year's Bacon Takedown at Lincoln Hall surprised us with the turnout. It also gave us our first introduction to a participant named Caitlin Roth, who eventually joined the Chicagoist staff as resident recipe goddess.

Matt Timms knows a city that's crazy about his bacon when he sees it, which is why he's bringing Bacon Takedown back for a second go-round at Lincoln Hall, starting 2 p.m. Sept. 18. Participants get fifteen pounds of Hormel Black Label bacon to work with. Last year's entries saw everything from Caitlin's bacon toffee popcorn to the bacon jam of Gapers Block's Andrew Huff and Cinnamon Cooper, which won top honors.

Interested participants can email Timms here. Everyone else gets to pay a $15 cover to sample the wares that day.

This is also where I note that Genevieve and I, from The A.V. Club, won peoples choice with our "sow-moas."

Cinamon and I took second place, if I recall correctly. First went to a chef from Harmony Grill -- the guy with the mini benedicts.

  • I hope Chuck gets to judge again this year.
