Do This: (Relatively) Affordable Farm Dinner and Butchering Demo With The Publican

2011_8_5SlagelDinner.jpg If you're a fan of Paul Kahan or The Publican, you'll want to grab tickets for this dinner right away. Farm dinners are wonderful, but when you add up the transportation, booze, food and tours they often top $200/person, a price tag we can rarely justify. This event, which pairs Slagel Family Farm with one of Chicago's favorite restaurants, is only $95/person. What does that include?

On August 20th, guests will hop on a bus at the Publican at Noon. Around 2:00, the bus will arrive at Slagel Farms. In addition to the usual farm tour, the Publican's head butcher Erling Wu-Bower will do a butchering demonstration, teaching guests how to break down a hog into retail cuts and giving lots of great cooking advice. After all the learning, enjoy a 4-course meal cooked by Paul Kahan and Brian Houston.

For $95? That's an unbeatable bargain, and tickets are sure to go fast. The whole dinner is BYOB (a rarity for a farm dinner) though water and lemonade are provided. Guests can buy tickets online.
