Palin Brings Bus Tour, Media Scrum to Reagan Home

Sarah Palin’s “One Nation” bus tour rolled into Dixon, IL, boyhood home of President Ronald Regan, Saturday. The former Vice Presidential candidate and half-term Alaskan Governor passed through the Northern Illinois town after making a stop in Iowa to tell visitors at their state fair she was still a potential candidate for president in 2012.

Palin rode through the Gipper’s childhood stomping grounds with little announcement ahead of time, but still managed to shake hands, sign autographs and pose for pictures. One Dixon resident told the Sauk Valley newspaper “My friend called me this morning and said ‘Sally, Sarah Palin’s up at the Reagan house,’ so what did I do? I hopped in the car.” After remarking on how humble and gracious Regan’s childhood home seemed to her, Palin visited Eureka college and later headed down to Springfield for a visit at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

We wonder how much longer this leg of Palin's family vacation bus tour will last before she starts complaining about how she wants to simply tour the nation quietly without media intrusion. We also wonder if Palin is trying to drum up political support or just keep in the limelight so she can get another book deal or television show.

Politics are getting all TMZ'd. Don't matter what the candidate has to offer, it's all about star power baby!

  • Petruce_Carrier

I wonder how many hostages she can fit on that bus?

  • Guest

Lasted four days this time--enough to jump into the limelight eating sticks of butter at the State Fair in Iowa.  Visited with the hogs and cattle.  Nobody took Sister Sarah seriously--any of the debaters would get more votes than the quitter from Wasilla.  Silly Sarah told her bus driver to hide the bus behind a shopping mall and she chartered a plane and cried meeeee meeeee meeeee all the way home.

  • Pacificone

The PROGRESSIVE media keeps knocking her but she keeps getting up!

  • Tafter

Serious question:  why is it that you are shouting 'progressive' at me?

I see this all the time on Trib comments by the hardcore right wingers...

"You liberal IDIOTS want to SURRENDER the US to the TERRORISTS and the UN."

I mean, I can see by your posts that you are clearly delusional.  After all, this isn't '08 anymore; the Curic/Palin flap should be well behind us, shouldn't it?  I guess persecution complexes never go out of style.  In any case, even delusional people should strive for clarity in making their crazy points.  Try a little restraint with the caps lock key, eh?

  • aaroncynic

NEVER! CAPS LOCK FOREVER! HOW ELSE WOULD YOU KNOW THAT WHAT I HAVE TO SAY IS SO VERY IMPORTANT

  • Navin_Johnson

    ^ Oh "blogs".  Gotcha.

  • sat3911

Navin, stop feeding the trolls and please agree with them that the PROGRESSIVE media keeps knocking her up

  • Pacificone

Yep! That is what this is all about!

  • Mimihaha

I don't see how anyone can find stupidity sexy. Even in leather.

  • ChicagoD

Boobs. And sexy glasses. I am a simple creature.

  • I just paìd $22.85 for an ìPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Canon EOS Rebel Camera that we got for $38.78 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $625 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.còm

  • snoopoz

Come on, people. Pointing out Palin's sexiness (I suppose) or her penchant for clothes debases the thousands of other reasons to dislike her, and it gives ammo to her defenders.

  • ChicagoD

Who gives a shit about ammo for her defenders? Seriously? She is vapid and kinda hot. It is what it is. No reason to be high-minded now.

  • snoopoz

If the majority of comments dismissing Palin contain construction worker type remarks such as "I'd hit it," it takes away from the argument in that instead of focusing on her idiotic ideologies and statements, we're dismissing her as a talking Barbie doll. Admittedly, it doesn't matter much what her supporters think, because no matter what she does or says, they won't be swayed. But, I suspect that if conservatives were making statements like that about a Democrat, a lot of commenters would be rightfully upset, because it has nothing to do with whether or not she is a good candidate.

  • ChicagoD

Nah. I'd be happy to have a hot Democrat to ogle.

And I reiterate, you comment assumes that the morons backing her actually will have a fair and honest intellectual discussion with you. They won't. Ever. So, screw 'em.

  • snoopoz

I kinda buried it in my other reply, but I agree that no matter what evidence you show to Palin supporters, it won't change their minds.

  • ReverendSlappy

I'd be happy to have a hot Democrat to ogle.

Debbie Wasserman Shultz... oh baby... ::drool::

  • ChicagoD

Takes all kinds, takes all kinds.

She kind of reminds me of Chelsea Clinton.

  • ReverendSlappy

The perm... the nasaly voice... the general frumpiness... man, she's got it ALL!

  • ReverendSlappy

I think most adults can separate a candidate's bangability -- or lack thereof -- from their suitability for public office, irrespective of which side of the aisle they happen to live on.

And all the people who would be swayed by an intellectual exercise in pointing out the abject idiocy of her ideologies and statements already know she's an extremist and a moron. The rest, being as addle-brained as they are, have already bought into Palin cult of personality lock, stock and barrel; no amount of factual, honest, reality-based discussion is going to change their minds. Take for example the lie-and-platitude machine, Pacificone, just here in this thread. You really think any amount of pointing out just how factless, whining, and dishonest his/her posts are would raise his/her IQ to the level necessary to realize that Palin is, at best, a master manipulator of small minds? I really doubt it.

  • Navin_Johnson

I for one don't think she's all that.  Lots of new coats of paint, but the house needs repairs if you feel me.  That said, she's played up her sexuality and heavily relied on it over and over again.  Her fans complaints about "sexism" ring kinda hollow when playing on her "sexy" image has been a big part of her strategy and fame-whoring, and has helped her skate by while otherwise being a babbling mental midget. A kind of quote box that spews out mindlessly out of context talking points.

  • ChicagoD

    Ageist.

  • Navin_Johnson

D, there's not much sexier than a smart, hot older woman.  That doesn't really apply to the subject of this article tho'.  She's a little too 'clowny' for my taste, in both looks and sensibility.  Have you ever seen that Simpsons where Homer invents the make up gun and shoots Marge with it?

  • Guest

Just another in a long line of snarky, sexist post. You can't have in both ways. You write "Palin rode through the Gipper’s childhood stomping grounds with little announcement ahead of time". Not exactly the kind of move someone makes if they are doing it for attention. If you are making an appearance just for the attention, you announce beforehand that you are coming. Like Pres. Obama does. Nice try though, Chicagoist.

  • aaroncynic

Please, could you point out how anything in this article is sexist? I look forward to hearing those rationalizations.

As far as attention seeking - yes, she is trying to have it both ways. If you don't want attention drawn to you, you don't ride around in a caravan that features a giant tour bus with the Constitution painted on the side of it. You also don't pretend you're on a nice family vacation, but announce it on your website (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes... and then say you want to be left alone, at least, unless Greta Van Susteren calls for an interview.

Finally, mainstreet America doesn't tour the country on their own personal buses for weeks and months on end.

  • ChicagoD

No, sexist would be saying how much they enjoy her penchant for leather . . .

  • Navin_Johnson

If you are making an appearance just for the attention, you announce beforehand that you are coming. Like Pres. Obama does

Weird how Presidents of the United States will do that......

  • Navin_Johnson

    What's wrong with sexy?

  • oonagh1

I guess Hyde Park and the University of Chicago were not American enough for Ms. Palin.

  • Pacificone

Nice Pic!  I have been reading about her all weekend. She can draw a crowd and has gotten a lot more articulate and relaxed in presenting her ideas. Way to go Sarah!  The media has been knocking her down for years and she gets right back up. She is one tough cookie. She spells trouble for the progressives and their leader Obama. It is so fun to watch everyone chase after her.  If this publication did not like her so much, why did they print this information about her?  Stop talking about her if she is soooooo baaaad for this country. Remember, if she runs, it is going to get everyone on both sides engaged.  Isn't that what our form of self rule is all about? The more people voting the better. And the media will make lots of $$$$$$!!! There will be so much fireworks in this next year's election cycle. It will be exciting. And when it is over, the country will still be standing but the person the majority of people wanted will be in office. This country is great and Go Palin!

  • ChicagoD

This is awesome. It is like a series of Palin non-answers to questions nobody asked. I, for one, look forward to being overwhelmed with Palin's idiot squad and Bachmann's counterattacks. Especially since it is basically Sgt. Mormon and against Lt. Texas for the nomination.

    Hint: Palin is neither.

  • mike_thoms

I think Pacificone is doing some performance art right there and quite frankly I find it brilliant. Or brillaint as Palin might spell it. Then ask why we say "brillyent" and not "brillyaint" since it's spelled brillaint. Isn't it?

  • Pacificone

Ouch! Someone has their panties in a twist! If Obama would have been vetted like Palin was and Romney or Perry will be, this last 3ish years wouldn't be such a mess! But let's not forget this a Chicago publication. Obama gets a pass! Palin, who is a non-reader, dumb back country mom who can see Russia from her porch, takes on big oil, and the corrupt good old boys club of AK and wins! She leaves billions in reserves and thousands of $$$$'s in the hands of AK residents! How is that for a non-answer? Who has a record of Change? If Palin was a progressive, we would never hear the end of her accomplishments! She is not . . . so the sheep keep vomiting at the thought of Palin.

  • ChicagoD

Yes, yes, yes. Palin us a heroine. She's not a quitting, idiot, hypocritical opportunist at all. Whatever. Win the race at the ballot box, not in the comment section.

  • ReverendSlappy

Win the race at the ballot box, not in the comment section.

This is one of the better arguments for why she probably won't run: everyone knows she'll lose, and lose huge

Why? I think it's because most voters view her as a pathetic figure. Every gaffe, every blank stare, every bit of revisionist (or straight-up fantastical) history, every unpopular policy position (what few of them she actually has)... whatever it is, it's always someone else's fault. It's "gotcha journalism" or "the lamestream media" or "progressive journalists" or "sexism". It's never "Yeah, oops, I screwed up. My bad" or "Golly, I guess people just don't agree with these things that I've said I stand for." Never.

And every honest, decent person out there knows that's dishonest, it's cowardly, and it's just pitiful. She and her cheap knock-off, Rep. Bachmann, are common, petty liars and cowards and it's plain as day. And when it does come time to go to the ballot box, their poor judgment will be made manifestly obvious: they've thought that because they've been able to get a small group of frothy fringe-dwellers all riled up, that they actually have a shot. The reality is going to be harsh for them... either one or both of them will lose and lose huge. They're gonna get creamed.

And I'll laugh, and I'll laugh...

  • bob roquet

Obama gets a pass? The article is about Palin visiting Dixon and you're whining that people are paying attention Palin.

  • Pacificone

Getting off track here but actually laughing not whining would be a better word! It would be laughing that MSM has to pay attention to Palin. They want her gone so bad. So fun to watch. Oh . . . Obama gets a pass? Here is a question? If the MSM had done its job in reporting Edwards affair to the public, what would have happened to Edwards during the primary? Who would have gotten his votes? Who would be president right now? My answer is Hillary. I think the country would be much better off with Hillary as president. How many wars are we in right now? What is the debt? Is Gitmo closed? Like I said Obama gets a pass from the MSM!

  • Navin_Johnson

You realize that she's Secretary of State and that Obama hired all the same Clinton (and some Bush) advisers, right?  dum dum.

  • Pacificone

You miss the point. I think Obama should never been elected because Edwards votes would have gone to Hillary. This is what could of happened. Hillary would be POTUS and Obama would be VP. Hillary would be in for eight years and Obama would be POTUS in 2016. The D's could have had the WH for a least 12 years. But now Obama will be out in 2012. Hillary will go be a private citizen. The next POTUS will be an R. The R's will control the House, Senate, and the WH in 2012. The tide is turning in this country.

  • ReverendSlappy

None of that is even to mention the fact that your notion that "Edwards votes would have gone to Hillary" shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the Democratic Party. Edwards supporters, in general, skewed more liberal than Clinton supporters, and Obama's numbers among liberals were far better than Clinton's.

Come back when you have a clue.

  • ReverendSlappy

The tide is turning in this country.

It sure is. But completely unsurprisingly, you've got which direction it's going precisely wrong.  I'll reprise one of my comments from before:

    Democrats: 47% favorable, 47% unfavorable.
    Republicans: 33% favorable, 59% unfavorable.
Tea Party: 31% favorable, 51% unfavorable.
    http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2...

And most other polls show similar trends.

    Yeeeouch.

Now, while you're applying ice to your crotch, consider these additional factoids:

    - The GOP favorable rating is actually 5 points lower than it was in 2006, when Democrats took control of Congress.
    - The GOP is less approved-of than it was when President Obama was elected.
    - The GOP favorable/unfavorable rating is the worst since CNN started doing polling in 1992.
    - Voters clearly see that it was the GOP who acted recklessly and idiotically in the Debt Ceiling goatfuck. Since July, the GOP has gone -12 (to an almost sympathy-inducing -26) on their favorable spread. The Tea Party's unfavorables doubled since January, and their spread doubled since July, from -10 to -20.
    - Meanwhile, Obama's numbers have changed very little since the end of the inaugural honeymoon. And, perhaps most strikingly, his lowest approval rating is actually better than any other president's low since Kennedy: http://www.frumforum.com/obama...

But now Obama will be out in 2012. ... The next POTUS will be an R. The R's will control the House, Senate, and the WH in 2012.

Given the fact that you apparently can't even see the overwhelmingly obvious trend away from Republican support, I'm more inclined to laugh than anything else at your idiotic predictions.

  • Navin_Johnson

Another reminder, I don't like Obama and didn't vote for him.  You'll have to come up with some kind of new 'secret weapon' to change the subject away from Palin.

  • Navin_Johnson

Obama's a shithead too, but he's a smart one.  Palin's just an absolute idiot.

  • Pacificone

With all respect, Obama has been protected before he ran for office and up until this last stock market melt down. Now his protection is starting to show cracks by the media. Smart? He is very scripted and pretty much sticks to what he is told to say. He is very good at giving a speech. He hasn't released his transcripts or papers from his university days. What does he have to hide if he is sooooo smart? He is well connected to the good old boys club if that is what is meant by smart. He is a progressive, with progressive ideas being protected by the progressive elite. Again, If Palin was a progress, she would be protected and praised also. We have been spoon feed that she is an idiot. She is an idiot because that is what the MSM wants us to believe. Palin's record of political accomplishments says other wise. She was well liked before she ran for VP. What changed? Bottom line, if she is an idiot, her record says that she is a really smart idiot:-)! If she were to become president, the good old boys club in DC would have a smart idiot that would do to them what she did in AK. Palin would work on getting more oil and gas out of our ground, more refineries, more natural gas distribution, and less money to the middle east and more money in the American treasury and I think the American consumer's pockets. I think we are spending around 800 billion annually on oil which is going over seas. But we continue to be feed that she is a dangerous dumb woman.

  • bob roquet

    Typical.

A conservative is talked about in an unflattering manner, after an article about that conservative, and cons can't wait to whine about how Obama has had it easy.

  • Pacificone

    Typical.

A Liberal is talked about in an unflattering manner, after an article about that Liberal, and Libs can't wait to whine about how Palin has had it easy.

  • ReverendSlappy

Either you're indulging in a bit of classic trolling or you're just your everyday, average "Sarah's just like ME! I'm a moron and so is SHE!" idiot.

Either way, for your own sake, stop. Just... stop.

  • Pacificone

You didn't have to reply! And a personal attack with your reply! Nice! Time will tell who is who! And I could say the same, "Either way, for your own sake, Just... stop."

  • ReverendSlappy

You're right, I didn't have to reply. I usually don't waste my time on people who believe that intellectual discourse is an exercise in repeating vapid platitudes, regurgitating debunked propaganda, and vomiting demagogic bullshit. Why? Because those people are idiots. In this case, lesson re-learned.

And I'm not surprised that you're once again just repeating what someone else has said. The simple minds of Palin cult members aren't capable of much more than that.

  • Navin_Johnson

*if* she did run, it'd be a blast to see her and Bachmann try to one up each other with different feats of lunacy.  I'm sure right now Palin is desperately searching carnival midways for *two-foot* long corndogs, lest she be outshined.

  • Navin_Johnson

The media has been knocking her down for years and she gets right back up.

lmfao.  She works for the biggest media conglomerate in the entire world.

  • Here comes the Palin Propoganda Machine again!  Continue looking and watching because your
tax dollars and hard-earned money are paying that gas and keeping her in the
spotlight.  Do you want someone in office
whose main focus isn’t on the people but on her bank account?  What Sarah’s after is fame and fortune and
everything that goes.  See the ways she
    sells herself at
    http://dregstudiosart.blogspot...

  • Petruce_Carrier

Lotta bus tours going on this week!

  • ChicagoD

Sure. Gas is below $4/gallon. Time to hit the open road.

  • ReverendSlappy

We also wonder if Palin is trying to drum up political support or just keep in the limelight so she can get another book deal or television show.

I'd say it's even money between continuing to celebritize herself and gearing up for a post-NH primary presidential announcement. I don't know which is really more likely: she's cynical enough to try to make money off the dim rubes who buy her as an authority figure, and delusional enough to believe she actually has a legitimate shot at the Oval Office.

  • ChicagoD

Yes, but I like her penchant for leather. I think you are forgetting that.

  • ReverendSlappy

Hey, don't get me wrong: All things being equal... I'd hit it.

  • Navin_Johnson

just keep in the limelight so she can get another book deal or television show.

^ This.  Greedy media whore is greedy media whore.
