Sad news from the Southwest side, where a pregnant teen was shot and killed in Marquette Park last night.

17-year-old Charinez Jefferson was declared dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Jefferson was shot multiple times at 64th and Whipple while she was walking to a corner store. A gunman jumped out of a passing car and shot Jefferson three times in the heart, once in the foot and once in the back of the head.

Jefferson was six months pregnant. Doctors were able to deliver her unborn son but Jefferson's mother Debbie said her new grandson lost some oxygen and could have some health issues. Debbie Jefferson said her daughter was talking to friends when she was shot and believes the shooter targeted the wrong person.

These shootings happen so often these days we're almost fucking numb to them. Almost. What kind of world do we live in where someone can roll up to a pregnant teenager and callously shoot her to death?

  • I left Chicago a year ago, and it still breaks my heart that my childhood neighborhood this crap still happens. Condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Jefferson.

Almost numb. Definitely describes my feelings for the bullshit that happens in this world. I never want to feel completely numb. Because then, I'd be as bad as the soulless being who shot this poor girl.

Mistaken identity? How do you confuse a 17-year-old pregnant girl with a piece of shit gangbanger? I mean I know these other pieces of shit who do the shooting are incredibly fucking stupid, but are they that stupid? Either way I hope they fucking rot in hell.

I wonder if it targeted the wrong person. My recollection is that the person most dangerous to a pregnant woman is the father of the unborn baby. I'm sure the detectives will be all over that guy. What a miserable story.

Sadly, you're right. And if he was the one who shot her/arranged for her to get shot I hope they put his ass under the jail.
