Smashing Pumpkins Announce 10/14 Riviera Show

2011_8_22_pumpkins.jpg Jam Productions announced today The Smashing Pumpkins -- or Billy Corgan's latest iteration of them -- will play the Riviera Theatre October 14, showcasing new material from the band's forthcoming album Oceania.

As for those of you who will undoubtedly ask, "How many actual Pumpkins?", at this point, Corgan is still the Great Pumpkin and he would likely tell you guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Nicole Fiorentino are the Pumpkins. But damn if those young faces don't make us feel old.

Tickets for the concert go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday through eTix, Jam's website and by calling 1-800-514-3849. Opening for the Pumpkins are Fancy Space People and Fiorentino's old band, Light FM.

Maybe Billy should put some of those ticket proceeds toward new press material e.g. the picture above.

At the risk of getting eviscerated here, has anyone ever made more from less than Billy Corgan? I mean, the Pumpkins did not produce a huge amount of great music, and his post-Pumpkins stuff has been (in my opinion) terrible. Yet, $50 a ticket . . .

I understand if you don't like them, or whatever, but during the time period between 1991--1998 they pretty much made nothing but huge amounts of great music. Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie, and Adore are all great, great albums...(although MCIS suffers from its bloatedness)

I actually do like them, but Mellon Collie is a basically one very good album (as you also noted) and . . . 1998. It is now 2011 and Billy is still flogging that horse. 13 years later, the guy still wants $50 a ticket. That was my point.

That's fair. his post-2000 output has occasional flashes of competency. Zeitgeist had 4-5 good songs scattered amongst the dreck. This new project (Teargarden by Whateverthefuck) has been consistently disappointing.

I can't find the price of these tickets anywhere. I would consider going for a certain (cheap) amount. But if its $50+ like the last tour, forget it

You might as well forget it, then, because the tickets are $50. - Chuck

    sucks to that.
