Blue Sky Bakery will host two farm dinners in the coming weeks, one for vegetarians and one omnivores. Blue Sky is one of our favorite bakeries in the city, and we've sang their praises before. Read our 2008 interview with Lisa Thompson, the organization's executive director. In addition to turning out some bread, pies and pastries, the organization also trains homeless and at-risk youth to become bakers, helps them learn to hold down a job, pays them a good wage and supports their education.

The vegetarian family-style dinner is Tuesday, August 30, 7p.m. to 9 p.m., with produce from Peasants' Plot Organic Farm in Manteno, Ill. The three-course meal -- with wine or cocktail pairings from David Tamarkin, TOC's food and wine editor -- will include goat cheese-stuffed squash blossoms, zucchini ricotta fritters and an heirloom tomato tart. Tickets can be purchased at the bakery or online here.

The omnivores' family-style dinner is Thursday, Sept. 22, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with grass-fed, organically pastured meats from Mint Creek Farm. The three-course meal -- with wine/cocktail pairings -- will include corn and bacon fritters, cumin scented pork tenderloin and housemade seasonal fruit pie and ice cream. Tickets can be purchased at the bakery or online here.

Blue Sky Bakery and Cafe is located at 3720 N. Lincoln Avenue.
