Do This: Homeroom's "Mixology 101"

The Whiskey Plum Sour, garnished with mint and topped with a head of egg white froth.

Few words that grace this humble website draw the ire of our readers like "mixology." Whenever Anthony or I are editing a post and see it in the copy, we can almost feel you reaching for the torches and pitchforks.

But "mixology" is an actual term and on Sept. 13 our own cocktail aficionado, Roger Kamholz, will be looking at the origins of the term, what separates a mixologist from a bartender and the state of Chicago's cocktail culture as one of the panelists of Homeroom's "Mixology 101" at the Hungry Brain.

Roger and Sable Bar and Kitchen's Mike Ryan, who's made the evenings out of a few of us on staff pleasant with his arsenal of mixed drinks, will discuss all that and more in a wide-ranging presentation. Homeroom is a 501(C)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and facilitate new creative programming in Chicago. Chicagoist is both honored and humbled to have the opportunity be associated with this.

Homeroom events are free and we encourage as many of you as possible to show up.
