Quinn Sends Guard Troops To Assist Vermont In Hurricane Aftermath

2009_07_20_quinn.jpg Gov. Quinn sent nearly 100 Illinois National Guard troops to Vermont yesterday to help assist victims of Hurricane Irene. The guard troops will use eight helicopters and ground support to deliver supplies to areas isolated by flooding. The Tribune reports Quinn said “As our friends in Vermont face some of the worst flooding their state has seen in over a century, we want them to know we are here to help.”

The units deployed come from Peoria, Decatur and Chicago. The support is welcome by Vermont, who have both Guard troops and all six of their Black Hawk helicopters still in Iraq.
