Logan Square Beating Puts 14-Year-Old Boy in Coma

A 14-year-old boy is in a coma after he was attacked in Logan Square around 9 p.m. Tuesday night. Brian DeLeon, a student at Phoenix Military Academy, was walking home after doing homework with his girlfriend. When he didn't call to tell her he had gotten home okay, his girlfriend and her mother became worried. Brian had tried to call his girlfriend and left a message with just the sound of "fighting and words in English." They went to find him.

Brian was found nearby with a head injury severe enough that emergency responders originally thought it was a gunshot wound. It was later determined to be the result of blunt force trauma, perhaps as the result of a baseball bat or a sledgehammer.

Police are still looking for information on the attack. Nothing was stolen from the boy, and there is no apparent motive. They say there were no apparent witnesses and no surveillance cameras in the area.
