Octogenarian Man Carjacked, Beaten by Women

An 80-year-old man who was just trying to be a good Samaritan got more than he bargained for after offering a group of women a ride.

The women promptly beat the man with his own cane, stole his wallet and cell phone and drove off in his car.

If this were four young lions beating up on an older lion, we'd be sad but would understand. This is just disgusting. Luckily the man only suffered minor injuries; he was treated and released at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Police have found no sign of the car nor the women. Maybe they shold just look for a gang of four preying upon another senior citizen.

Good god.  I don't understand Chicagoist's slant on this story, nor the comments that follow it.

1 - it doesn't make it more or less disgusting that it was 4 females that beat up an old man.  An old man was beaten with a cane.  It is disgusting, PERIOD.

2 - it doesn't matter if the guy stared at their boobs, called them hos, and asked them for a 5-way (4-way?).  Honestly Ingridz, I know you probably didn't mean it the way it sounded, but yes, your comment came across like there was probably some reason for them to beat him with a cane, and that he "deserved" it.  If they simply were trying to get away from a "pervert" they wouldn't have stolen his wallet and his car.

There's no excuse or reason or motive for this, and it's just another example in a long line of them of how this city is inexorably heading towards total anarchy.

  • Ingridz

I guess I should have went on to say "but that didn't mean he deserved to get clobbered with his own cane." There.
I was robbed last week while out of the country, I was being gullible...but I guess I should go on to say that I didn't deserve it.

  • ChicagoD

BTW, as of this morning the "good Samaritan" element of the story is being discounted by the victim. The police still (apparently) say that he offered a ride, but he is saying they jumped into his unlocked car.

My skepticism about the good Samaritan story is not they wanted to flee a pervert, it is that I think he was trying to pick up a prostitute and got jacked. Picking up prostitutes in Englewood (or anywhere) is dangerous business. Spinning it as "offering a ride" is the oldest excuse in the book. So, if the initial "offering a ride" story is true, I shrug and say that risky behavior involves risks, regardless of how old you are. It's not a matter of "deserving" something, it's a matter of increasing the odds of a bad outcome through your own behavior. If the "jumped into my unlocked car" story is true, these girls acted like despicable animals (although I will refrain from calling them "cunts.")

Does that give any context to the comments? Also, THIS is why I need to work on my "weaning" project.

lol.. you are certainly free with the dreaded "t" (t.r.o.l.l) word though.

Again you bring status into this, even if he was looking for sex with a prostitute still shouldn't be an excuse for being beaten up, just like prostitutes do not deserve to get raped even though their societal status is perceived to be so low, (mostly by other women, oddly enough).

Practically speaking, of course, maybe he was just stupid, and surrealistically living in another era where women were much less likely to engage in physical violence.

  • ChicagoD

My God. You really seem to think you are adding something. I don't know if I can type slowly enough for you. What you are trying to do (i.e. pick up a prostitute) and what your status is or may be are different. When you engage in risky behavior, you raise the odds that bad things will happen. That is not your status, that is the potential consequence of your actions. Get it? It is not a matter of "deserving" anything. It is a matter of how much sympathy you have when people get burned playing with fire. My answer is, some, but not much.

By the way, he was a police detective before he retired and is now apparently claiming they jumped into his car without offer or invitation. So, I don't buy the "living in another era" fantasy you have constructed out of whole cloth. He may have been genuinely carjacked. He may have ended up in an embarrassing situation while trying to pick up a prostitute, but he was not living in Pleasantville in 1950.

I am not actually criticizing this man. Even if he was trying to pick up a prostitute, it doesn't matter to me. However, this "good Samaritan" story in the middle of Engelwood (from a former police detective) struck me and strikes me as complete fabrication. As you said, I can spot B.S. I can't bring myself to view this as the end of civilization as we know it when the story doesn't add up.

  • Poester69 Poester69

yes, I can tell how slowly you are typing, thx for your consideration.

Agreed.. (and to summarize, so as to not waste time due your slow typing and all) being careless or stupid can add significantly to the risk your being a victim of some crime.

I would think being a retired cop (if you're correct) would make you more aware of your environment than others, but then I've met some pretty ignorant cops.

But that was not where this thread started.
Now you're showing some sense, I guess my "troll" field work is done here.

  • ChicagoD

I think what I thought at the beginning, but now I am annoyed, so your troll work has gone wonderfully.

  • Poester69 Poester69

With emphasis on the word *showing*. I certainly take pride in my work.
    Last word .. lol

  • Poester69 Poester69

Americans have more people in jail per capita than any other country in
the world, and you're still not "safe". Maybe the real roots of the
    problems should be examined instead.

  • Raven001

Poverty, and 50% of all of America's money in the hands of only 1% of its' population?
Different laws that openly discriminate against one visibly genetic group in favour of another?
Seriously, the stink raised over the time black criminals get for the same crime as white criminals could not hold a candle to the sentencing disparity between men and women without ever getting into the biases in family court.
It almost looks like racism is played up to keep the focus off of the reality than men have become 2nd class citizens.

  • if he were half his age he would have loved it.  4 women and him.  His only problem was that he did not have his viagra.

  • Poester69 Poester69

It's amusing how you bring your own "preferences" into it. Where do you draw the line with your SO, or is it not fun until someone loses an eye?

  • DannyZeta

"If this were four young lions beating up on an older lion, we'd be sad but would understand."
What does that mean?  This man is a human being, not an animal god dammit!

  • Raven001

It goes on to state that it is not acceptable.  Essentially calling these thugettes out as not being up to the standard we hold ourselves as humans.
I find no issue with the article itself, just the hicks commenting that in someway the old guy might have "deserved" this treatment.

  • Every single one of these cunts should be tracked down, beaten until they shit themselves and then shot. You do NOT do that to your elders.

    Fucking EVER.

  • ChicagoD

So, it's OK to use the term "cunt" to describe other people, but not to call shenanigans on the narrative of this story? You people are complete fucks. It isn't alright to beat up an old guy, but don't give me this "good Samaritan" bullshit, you fucking rubes.

  • Poester69 Poester69

you can call him whatever you like, but I can call BS when I see it...

  • Navin_Johnson

You'd think he'd have been able to fight them off with his 8 arms.

    srsly though :(

  • Ingridz

Don't be so quick to judge Chuck...he may have been an old perv thinking he would get a piece of ass for giving them a ride. Call me jaded...

  • ScooterLibbby

He was interviewed on camera on WGN TV 9PM news last night & said he forgot to lock the doors & he usually drives with them locked.
    Somebody is lying!

  • nobodyreallyimportant

I'll call you sexist- how's that?

  • ChicagoD

That was exactly my thought. The whole scenario is pretty odd otherwise. Good for him for still rollin' ass at 80, but it didn't work out.

  • Ingridz

hahaha....you're right!! Good for him for trying. lol  I was just thinking back to a couple of years ago when I used to bring soup over to a neighbor man who was around 90 and he would be staring at my boobs the whole time I was there. And I've also read things about shenanigans that go on in nursing homes....still rollin' ass..... :-)

  • Poester69 Poester69

In keeping with your point, did you grab the 90 year old's cane and beat him with it? You go gurl!

  • Ingridz

He didn't have a cane, he had a walker. And no...I let him get his jollies...I brought him food all the time. He was not a nice man, but he enjoyed my company...he talked a lot about his dead wife and his past (he was a Nazi) and I felt I was doing a good deed. You know, just because you're old doesn't mean you're a cherub.

  • Poester69 Poester69

That's true... and it's good that you're helping people out, even those who may not be really deserving of it.
But then why would you gender profile the man in this story? Your automatic assumption that he "had it coming", in some way, simply because of his sex is disturbing.
Your comment(s) say more about you and what you think about than it does about the story itself.

  • Ingridz

Good lord, you got "he had it coming" from my comment? Because that's not what the intent was. Stop with your assumptions, you know nothing about me.
All I said was that maybe there was a "reason" those people went off on him...not that he deserved it. Lighten up.

  • Poester69 Poester69

so when you hear about a mugging or rape the first thing you think about is what they did to deserve it? yeah, right.

  • ChicagoD

You're a shitty troll. If I heard you got beaten I'd certainly think you deserved it.

  • Poester69 Poester69

If I was going to troll I would be a good one, but no, I actually expect a logical response, if it's in there, somewhere. Or you can whine, stamp your feet and hold your breath till you turn blue, if you want.

  • ChicagoD

    Shut up, stupid.

    How's that?

  • Poester69 Poester69

    lol.. thx for confirming..

  • Just because you're not a cherub doesn't mean you deserve to get beaten with a cane.

  • Ingridz

Jeez Blue, you should know better than that and you should know me better than that! That is not even close to what I said.

  • It may not be what you intended to say, but it's what came across.

I still love you, though. Just don't beat me with a cane.

  • Ingridz

ok...I am going to beat you with a wet noodle for that...I really don't see that from my comment. All I said was there might be a reason why they went off on him. Does having a 'reason' for something mean he deserved to get beaten? No.
And I'll reply to the troll here too..when someone gets raped, does that mean she deserved it? Fuck no!!! But, having worked as a medical advocate volunteer for a Rape Victim Advocates, here in Chicago...there are things that women can do to avoid being in situations that could put you in danger. But...we have had THAT conversation on this site before and I'm not going to rehash all of that.
Hard to believe that it's gotten to all of this from my one little light hearted comment. I feel bad for the old coot...and no matter WHAT he did not deserve to get beaten. If you are a single girl walking naked down an alley at 3am you don't deserve to get raped. GET IT?? But you could avoid the possibility of that happening to you by not walking down an alley naked at 3am. Why do I even need to explain this?????

  • Raven001

Pray tell what "reason" would 4 women have for stealing his wallet and car?
Is that the price he must pay for looking at their tits too long?  If that even happened.
Stop making excuses for these 4 walking douchebags.
Even if he had taken a whole bottle of Viagra and attempted anything the proper response would have been to report the incident, not rob and car-jack him.
As for your comparison to naked women walking down alleys, the two are not even similar.  The naked woman would be more similar to flashing wads of cash in the roughest part of town and getting mugged.  Both are actions that any reasonable person would realise can have bad consequences.  The victim here suffers the same affliction as many in mistakenly thinking women are "good"....... They are not.  There are good and bad women and, unless you are confident in giving a lift to a 300Lb biker you should not give a lift to a woman.  Actually the woman could be far more dangerous to your wellbeing.
Check out www.register-her.com for a short list of proven beyond a double evil women.

  • Ingridz

Oh for Christ's sake, give it a rest. My original comment was meant to be a lighthearted joke about how men can be pervs even into their twilight years...I said absolutely NOTHING about him deserving to be beaten. Jesus..do you people have like no sense of humor? Or is this subject so taboo to you that it is sacred...we can't make light hearted assessments? Or was it just 'too soon'?

  • Raven001

And you would take kindly to people "lighty heartedly" joking that a woman deserves to be raped because maybe she dressed like a skank?
You don't seem to get that there would be mass outrage if the shoe were on the other foot.
But, bigots rarely see themselves as bigots.

  • Ingridz

Have you read this whole thread? Did you see where I was a medical advocate for Rape Victim Advocates? You really need to shut your pie hole...I'm a pacifist and you're making me feel like I could hit you with an old man's cane. Maybe I need to talk very slooooowly for you?

     I. Do. Not. Think. That. The. Old. Man. Or. Any. Woman. No. Matter. What. She. Is. Wearing. Deserves. To. Be. Physically. Abused.   Now, go watch some reruns of Tosh.O and learn how to laugh at the absurd, the profane AND the sacred.

  • Poester69 Poester69

Agreed, it's good to be a fly in the ointment though. So few people ever examine what they believe.

  • ChicagoD

Wow. If I willfully misinterpret something you post, then attack you based on my misinterpretation, I will have acted for the public good by forcing you to "examine what you believe?" That is bizarre reasoning.

  • Poester69 Poester69

If you see "an attack" in someone that disagrees with you using a logical interpretation of what you wrote then it is you with the problem. Certainly belies the stony complexion of your avatar.

  • ChicagoD

"Logic." I do not think this word means what you think it means.
